It’s all about the Oats

Inspired by the delicious and healthy breakfast options we discovered during our travels around Southeast Asia, we thought, why not bring this to our hometown and put a Scottish twist on it? When we returned #GoAwesomePorridge was born, becoming the cornerstone of what Hata stands for, All things Oats!

Every Wednesday, we have new and exciting combinations on the menu in our cafe. Check it out as our fantastic team has grown, so has our menu and creativity featuring homemade toppings and well curated ingredients which compliment our creamy porridge. We also serve overnight oats with homemade toppings and our infamous homemade granola.

We don’t just do breakfast we also do brunch, with homemade sandwiches, toasted sandwiches and soup, all of course made with Hata love and uniqueness, so why not pop in and enjoy our small friendly cafe and see what we have to offer.

About the cafe

Hata opened its doors in December 2020 by owners Andrew & Agata, after two months of blood sweat and tears and a lot of help from Pietro the joiner, who helped guide us throughout the fit out. (without him it would of taken close to triple the amount of time!)

Since opening our doors, Hata has become more than a cafe, it has become a wee nook nestled away in a corner of Edinburgh, that has brought countless people together and a place where some life long friends have been made over a bowl of porridge. So if you are looking for a cozy wee place to meet with friends and family, or somewhere to simply enjoy, relax and read your favourite novel, while soaking up the friendly atmosphere of Hata, then this is the place for you.

  • Our porridge is 100% vegan! Made with oat milk (and love).

While oats are naturally gluten free, our oats are unfortunately not gluten free certified, meaning they are produced in a mill with items containing gluten and the risk of cross contamination is always present.

  • Derived from the Polish word “chata,” meaning a small house or cottage, Hata invokes feelings of warmth and homeliness.

Bringing the meaning of Hata to the cafe and in everything we do Grounds Hata in this amazing community of Canonmills .

  • Porridge is a traditional Scottish breakfast meal that has many health benefits and which inherently is a simple dish which can be turned into something awesome. Topped with seasonal homemade fresh ingredient such as compotes, jams and in seasonal fruit. It doesn't disappoint.

From our #goawesomeporridge to our homemade granola and overnight oats. We’ve got something for everyone. Even if you don't think you like porridge, we dare you to give it a try you wont be disappointed.
